There are many barriers to effective communication between parents, teachers, and students who are English Language Learners. State and federal laws require that students have access to ESL programs but there are no laws that address communication between parents and teachers.
It can be intimidating for all parties to bridge a language barrier. Relationships between parents, teachers, and students are an important factor towards improving education achievement, motivation, cognitive, social, and emotional development, prosocial behavior, and self esteem. In order for children to learn at their greatest potential the bridge between parents, students, and teachers must be bridged.[3]
